Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), NTA Chapel, Mr. Alex Akinwale, his wife, Rebecca, his daughter, Paulina, and their house-help lost their lives yesterday in an accident involving the convoy of Ondo State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi.
Akinwale’s son, Paul, however, survived the incident and has been admitted to the Accident and Trauma Centre, Ondo Town. A traditional ruler, the Osunmakinde of Ife Tuntun, Oba Obawure Taofeek Olaposi, also sustained injuries in the accident and has been hospitalised.
Deputy Governor Olanusi, who was going to Ondo town for an official assignment, was unhurt in the head-on collision which happened around 10:20 a.m. at Aponmu Village along the Akure-Ondo Road.
An eyewitness was quoted as saying that the accident occurred when a white Toyota Camry car belonging to Oba Olaposi ran into the deputy governor’s convoy, among other vehicles, in the process of overtaking them.
