One of the personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, under the auspices of Coalition of Concerned Veterans, collapsed during a protest in Abuja, while demanding for an upward review of veteran ‎pension.

‎The aggrieved retirees on Wednesday gathered at the Federal Ministry of Finance, blocked its entrance and chanted solidarity songs while holding placards with various inscriptions to convey their messages.

‎Addressing journalists during the protest, Chairman of the group, Comrade Anthony Agbas called for a review of veteran pension every five years based on 53.37 percent.

Spokesperson of the group, Abiodun Durowaiye-Herberts flawed the Federal Government for not paying attention to military men who laid down their lives for the unity of the country.

Unfortunately, they were not addressed by any Ministry official as the Minister, while Mrs. Kemi Adeosun was also said to have attended the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.

Other demands of the group included payment of the balance of gratuity and pension for officers and soldiers who were discharged between June 30, 2003 and December 2007, as well as the implementation of the balance of 20.37 percent of pension he alleged was wrongly deducted from the 53.37 percent pension approved by government.

They however vowed to occupy the premises of the Ministry on a weekly basis until their requests are met.

Efforts to reach a representative to respond on behalf of the Ministry proved abortive.
