Nigeria’s UK-based Forex trading guru, Christ Obafemi Akinyomi, has been cleared of fraud allegations by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and is no longer on the agency’s Wanted List.

Akinyomi’s lawyers, S.O. Ajayi and Gbolahan Ajayi Esq., disclosed this in a Public Notice issued on Tuesday in Lagos.

The lawyers are requesting that the story, which centered on Akinyomi being on EFCC Wanted List, and which was published by some online platforms and blogs, be removed, “since the EFCC which was the original source of the story had removed it from its website.”

The Public Notice reads:

REQUEST TO REMOVE THE STORY OF MR CHRIST OBAFEMI AKINYOMI BEING ON THE EFCC WANTED LIST

We are Counsel To Mr Christ Obafemi Akinyomi (hereafter referred to as our Client) on whose behalf we write this Disclaimer.

For almost two years now that our client had some issues at Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), your organisation has been carrying on your Online publication/Blogs/Website, till date, the story to the effect that our client is a “Wanted person” by (EFCC) in connection with an alleged crime. This is despite the fact that the issue between our client and EFCC has been resolved amicably and our client’s name has been taken out of the EFCC’s watch list of wanted persons. A check on the EFCC website will confirm this to you.

We hereby request you to immediately delete our client’s name from the list of wanted persons by the EFCC on your Blogs/ Online Publication/ Website, as a continuous retention of such stories is injurious to the character of our clients and is certainly defamatory and actionable.

Please note that if you do not comply with the request made in this letter within 5 (five) days of your receipt of this letter, we shall forthwith seek remedy for our client before a court of competent jurisdiction for defamation.

Yours faithfully,

S.O. AJAYI & CO./ Gbolahan Ajayi Esq
