Governors Nyesom Wike, Ayo Fayose and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Rivers, Ekiti and Enugu states respectively, are slated to be in Anambra State today, Monday, August 21, 2017, for the Ward Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The three governors are expected to conduct the party’s congress for the nomination of three delegates from each of the 326 wards in Anambra for the party’s governorship primary.
Though the three governors were still being awaited at the time of filing this report last night, the Caretaker Chairman of the party in Anambra, Prof ABC Nwosu, assured that PDP has moved from the era of cash and carry PDP to the era of people’s choice taking the centre stage.
Addressing journalists in Awka yesterday, Nwosu said that his dream is to sanitise the party and give it a good name.
His words: “We have been all over the courts for the wrong reasons but this is the time to put our name in gold. The era of party structure hijack is over. This time we will have a credible ward congress and primary election in the state.
“We have been meeting stakeholders and members of the party in the state, and we have assured them that the process will be free and fair. We are in Anambra to ensure that we restore the political process in the state, and we are surprised that our people have been seeking to bend the rule.”
Nwosu maintained that no aspirant has been allowed to put his money in the party adding that at the moment the party is being run from individual pockets for the simple reason of not wanting to be bought over.
“Any aspirant that wants to support the party financially should wait till he emerges the candidate of the party, then it will be justified,” he further said.
The former Health Minister assured that his team is working towards harmonising all the various lists of the party into one register to ensure the party has a common front. “No more factions; PDP is one body now and nobody is in charge. We are all working together as one party,” he stated.
