Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, has led senior officers of the command to an emergency meeting with the traditional rulers in Ikorodu as part of efforts to end the menace of the dreaded Badoo group.
The meeting, held yesterday, saw CP Owoseni leading a high powered delegation comprising the DC (CID), DCP Bolaji Salami, the Area Commander Ikorodu, ACP Garuba, the Commander RRS, ACP Olatunji Disu, and other DPOs to meet the Obas and other traditional representatives in Ikorodu and its environs. The meeting discussed collaboration of the residents and the police to end the menace and also to put a stop to the jungle justice meted out to suspected Badoo members by the residents.
The Lagos Police Boss emphasis the need to put suspected Badoo members under proper scrutiny rather than engaging in a mob action which could defeat the opportunity of screening and interrogation that might give meaningful information to the police.
“Also, jungle justice can as well lead to killing of the innocents without proper confirmation, which can be regarded as murder of the innocents,” he said.
News Express learnt that the meeting was also geared towards perfecting a neighbourwatch strategy which could help in the security alertness of the residents in curbing the menace of ritual killing which has afflicted Ikorodu over the months.
CP Owoseni advised Ikorodu residents to endeavour to know their neighbours and be more security conscious.
The meeting came barely days after the Lagos State Police Command uncovered a shrine believed to be that of the satanic Badoo group.
