The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has thrown its weight behind the rejection of restructuring of the nation by the Senate.

In a statement made available to journalists in Awka and signed by MASSOB leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu, the group noted that the latest position of the Senate on devolution of powers, restructuring and other issues of national interest for national equity and justice is another evidence that Nigeria was handed over to Islamic Hausa and Fulani by the British colonial masters.

The statement reads: “MASSOB is not surprised that they opposed it. We have said it severally that no meaningful process to restructure Nigeria will ever work because it will affect the fraudulent foundation of the system that birthed Nigeria by the British colonial ingrates.

“This Arewa opposition to the national equity and justice will continue to revive the over-charged Biafra consciousness and tension in Nigeria. MASSOB hails the northern-dominated Nigeria Senate for opposing all the efforts for national equity and justice that will affect the regional interest of Arewa people.

“The British colonialists will be disappointed at the religious leaders of Arewa people if Nigeria is restructured for national equity and justice.

“MASSOB and other pro-Biafra groups are being justified in our non-violent activities for Biafra actualisation and restoration. What will the Igbo political, religious and traditional leaders do now for their ever loved Nigeria? Even the North-Central, the Middle Belt Senators cowardly bowed to the pressure of the core northern leaders.”

MASSOB further maintained that it was not moved by the review or removal of the quit notice order given to the people of Biafra by a coalition of Arewa youths group.

“MASSOB charges the coalition of the Arewa youths not to back out from their threat against Ndigbo living in Arewa land. Millions of Igbo Biafrans are resident in all the urban and rural towns of Arewa land waiting for the destruction of their lives and property by Arewa youths coalition led by their arrowhead, Yerima Shettima.

“The world is waiting to see the latest political drama that will erupt in Africa. Your threat can never stop MASSOB and other pro-Biafra groups on Biafra self determination struggle for actualisation and restoration. Today the so called Northern Nigeria is drastically and irreparably divided on grassroots level both politically and religiously.”

MASSOB, however, said that it will continue to maintain the non-violence stance for which it is known.
