Seventy-three-year-old Obadiah Eliaku, a native of Akuzor, Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, was beheaded on Saturday by yet-to-be-identified assailants while in his farm.
Though his son who raised the alarm escaped unhurt, News Express gathered that Obadiah had gone to his farm located at Nkisi River bank in company of his son to clear the farm and was allegedly attacked by some assailants wielding all manner of weapons.
A search team from the community later found the headless body of Eliaku.
Speaking to News Express, a community leader in the area, Mr. Chris Udeze said the incident might not be unconnected with a land dispute between Oze community in Oyi Local Government Area and Nkpor.
In his reaction, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Umar called on communities in the state to follow due process in settling land disputes instead of taking laws into their hands.
He however assured that the assailants would be tracked.
