The Senate has resolved to direct its Committee on Marine Transport to diligently investigate dredging activities and financial waste in Nigerian ports including Lagos, Bonny and Calabar by Channel Management Limited and report back within a week.
This followed a point of order 42 and 52 cited by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, lawmaker representing Delta Central, during plenary on Wednesday, pleading that the Senate, through the Committee on Marine, should intervene to stop the monumental recklessness and financial waste at sea ports across the country.
In his ruling, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, pointed out that the activities going on at the ports must be checked so that the financial waste will not in any way affect the 2017 Budget.
Saraki maintained that “these are the issues we will be bringing out from agencies so as to fight and protect the interest and rights of our people.”
The Senate during today’s plenary also eulogised former Governor of Taraba State, the late Danbaba Suntai, and observed a minute silence over his passage.
