Yobe approves N2.1bn for capital projects

The Yobe State Government has committed the sum of over 2.1 billion Naira for the execution of capital projects spread across the state.

The State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Mala Musti revealed this to journalists at the end of the state executive council meeting held in Damaturu the state capital.

He says the council approved a variation of N529 million Naira for the construction of the 77KM Damaturu-Magza road bringing the contract sum to N6.5 billion as against 5.9 billion Naira.

The road which is Federal Government road connects Yobe and Borno as well as links the two states to other north east states of Adamawa.

The Commissioner also disclosed that the council in session approved for the drilling of eight boreholes at three major hospitals in Geidam, Gashua and Potiskum at the cost of N83.1 million naira.

“The council approved for the provision of package of drilling of 8 API boreholes equipped with 8L/S pump, 25,000 gallons overhead tanks on 12m tower and 60KVA generating set, generator room with fencing and 1.25KM lengths of reticulation at General Hospital Geidam, Gashua and Potiskum at the cost of N83.1 million naira.”

He revealed that the council also approved for the construction of earth dyke at Magura (Garin Gada) with total length of 1200m at the cost of N56.9 million.

Mala Musti also said the council also approved the construction of special 33KVA transmission line linking Babban Gida and Dapchi line phase I and II with the approval for electrification of Lantaiwa, Kaliari and Koromari towns phase II at the total cost of N309 million Naira.

To speed up the construction of the newly approved college of medical sciences at the Yobe State University, the council he said approved for the required variation for the construction of pre-clinical building of the institution.

“The council approved variation required for the construction of pre-clinical building at the new College of Medical Sciences Yobe State at the cost of N161.8billion Naira and additional structures for the state university in Damaturu.”

The commissioner also said the council awarded contract for the procurement of vehicles for the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Bursar, students’ shuttle and field trip at the cost of N116.6 million Naira. (Channels TV)
