The House of Representatives on Thursday described the threat issued to Igbos by a coalition of northern youth groups, as a dangerous trend that threatens the unity of the country.
The House condemned the quit notice issued and the reported reply by the MASSOB accepting the declaration and asking Igbos to leave the region.
They (lawmakers) described the development as a dangerous to the country and must be nipped in the bud.
The motion sponsored by Rep. Oghene Egoh, which came as a motion of urgent public importance, was adopted unanimously.
The lawmakers have asked the government to intervene to prevent the breakdown of law and order.
Both groups have however been urged to rescind their positions.
Similarly, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has warned tribal groups against issuing threats to members of other groups and making hate speeches.
The IGP said this on Thursday at a press briefing in Abuja, during which he read the Riot Act to Commissioners of Police on crime prevention. (Channels TV)
