It was fun galore in Ugbekun, a community few kilometres south of the Edo State capital Benin City, as its first Christmas carnival was held from the evening of Saturday, December 21, to the early morning of Sunday, December 22. The event organised by the youths of the community saw important personalities in attendance, among them the Secretary to Ikpoba Okha Local Government Council, Kennedy Osifor.
Amidst the throbbing deliverance of Nigerian songs by the DJ of the event MC13, there were powerful performances from different Edo music artistes, including the leading local crooner ‘Flame’ who delivered his signature tune ‘Follow your heart’ which set the already dance-drunk crowd wilder.
The high point of the occasion was the dance competition which pitted exciting young talents against each other, as the disc jockey (MC 13) fed the popular ‘Skelewu’ track by the sensational Davido. Emeka Ike (not the Nollywood actor) emerged victorious after the crowd, who were the judges, overwhelmingly picked him ahead of others.
Speaking with News Express after the carnival, the young Ike thanked the crowd, and described dancing as a spirit that possesses him, and leads him to deliver wowing footsteps and body moves.
“I feel good to have won. I had the belief I was going to win; that’s why I got on stage,” Ike said.
The teenage sensation had in the past won several dance awards around Benin City. His dancing steps are based on a unique blend of dance moves by popular music artistes and original steps of his own.
