Touched by the plight of students at the secondary school in Katsina State, to which she was posted, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has come to their rescue by providing them with a school clinic. Noticing other areas of need, the generous corper, Miss
Sekinat Muritala, also raised money to provide a school sign post, as well as school and national flags at the Government Day Secondary School, Tsagero, in Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina.
The projects were recently commissioned with fanfare, with several dignitaries in attendance to rejoice with the delighted students and Corper Sekinat Muritala, a graduate of Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State.
The event, which took place on March 16, 2017, was chaired by the Chairman of Rimi Local Government Council, Alhaji Abd-Rahma Magama, with Katsina State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Halimatu Sa’adiyya Idris, as Special Guest of Honour. District Head of Tsagero, Alhaji Garba Usman Nagogo, also sent a representative.
Miss Sekinat Muritala told News Express that she felt fulfilled, describing the actualisation of the projects as a dream come true.
On what motivated her to embark on the projects she told News Express: “The sympathy I felt for the students and the school challenged me to embark on these projects, specifically the clinic. The students didn’t receive proper treatment both at home and in the school. They used to lose concentration while at school, and some of them were irregular because of illness or injuries. They always told me there was no medicine, no money to buy drugs. This made me sad. Then the idea of converting one of the unused class rooms into a clinic came into my mind and I decided to accept the challenge. I renovated the place and bought essential drugs and equipment.
“Along the line I discovered that there were some other things very important to the school but which were lacking, such as school sign post, school flag and national flag. I also decided to raise money to provide these things as my contribution in return for the hospitality of the school.”
Miss Sekinat Muritala expressed gratitude to Allah and for “the unprecedented support of the school Principals, Alhaji Sani Lawal, staff and students of the school” as well as others who made it possible for her to successfully execute the projects.
