Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has assured the families of victims of recent acts of banditry and criminality in Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Kaura and Jema’a local government areas that justice will be done.
The Governor warned against any act of reprisal, explaining that notions of self-help and vengeance only serve to perpetuate the cycle of needless violence.
Samuel Aruwan, Spokesperson for the Governor, said in a statement issued over the weekend that the Governor commiserated with the families. He disclosed that the State Government has set up a committee to meet with them and update them on arrests that have been made, and the ongoing investigations into the attacks.
According to the statement, “The Kaduna State government will continue to be focused and resolute in pursuit of peace. This includes vigorous punishment and investigation of all those responsible for the killing of innocent citizens across the state.
“Government has equally set up a committee to go round and explain to aggrieved families and communities that the state is committed to ensuring that justice is done.
“Therefore, the government is requesting that everyone should shun the temptation to indulge in reprisals. Rather every aggrieved person must place their trust in the institutions of law enforcement. The government will not tolerate conduct likely that could jeopardize peace and tranquillity throughout the state.
“Citizens in all our communities should continue to exercise the utmost patience and shun provocations. We must continue to work together against all forces of darkness that menace our state and humanity.”
