A former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in 2015, Dr. Nyerere Anyim, have embarked on massive mobilisation of political bigwigs and party stakeholders to ensure that APC takes over power in the state in 2019.

Meanwhile, former Managing Director/CEO of defunct Hallmark Bank Plc, Sir Mark Wabara, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for APC.

Wabara, a former gubernatorial aspirant under PDP, while hosting ex-Governor Kalu and other APC leaders at his Ohambele, Ukwa East LGA, country-home on Sunday, stated that he has resolved to join the ‘Change’ movement in Abia and Nigeria.

While speaking earlier in the day at the Stakeholders/Leaders meeting of Abia APC held at Umuahia, Kalu and Anyim reiterated that the days of PDP and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu are numbered “as Abians have resolved to end their inglorious era.”

According to Kalu, “This is the time for Leaders of the party to demonstrate love and unity towards moving the party forward. The love for our dear party should be supreme than love for positions. We must demonstrate understanding and work together as one united party. We should also forget the past and work towards taking over Abia in 2019. The era of rigging is over as nobody will steal votes again in Abia.”

Also speaking, Dr. Anyim, recently appointed Executive Commissioner, Pension Commission, averred that APC has repositioned greatly to win election at all levels in Abia State.

“Let’s work together as party leaders to achieve a mutual goal. With the array of political bigwigs and Leaders that have joined APC, we don’t have reason for not taking over the state in future elections,” Dr. Anyim said.

On his part, Abia APC Chairman Donatus Nwankpa stated that the meeting was aimed at mobilising stakeholders of the party towards working for a common goal which is to sack the PDP through the ballots in 2019.

“What we have demonstrated today, is merely to give the PDP a quit notice ahead of time. The wonderful turnout in the ongoing registration and revalidation of members shows that APC has grown to take over power in Abia State. That is why we have over 70 percent of Abia big politicians presently in our party,” Nwankpa said.

Political heavyweights that attended the meeting included Dr. Idika Kalu, former Minister of Finance; Senator Nkechi Nworgu, who was recently appointed Chairman, University of Calabar Governing Council; Mr. Chidi Ajaegbu, former ICAN President, Senator Chris Adighije; Comrade Chris Akomas, former Deputy Governor; Sam Nkire, BOT member, and many others.
