The Abia State Police Command says it has arrested about 267 crime suspects in the last eight months.
A breakdown of the figure shows that 134 suspects were arrested for armed robbery, 29 for child trafficking, 26 for kidnapping, and 24 for cultism.
Also, 18 other suspects were arrested for car snatching, 15 for acts of vandalism, eight for fraud; seven for burglary, four for rape and two for murder.
The Abia State Police Commissioner, Leye Oyebade, who disclosed this to newsmen in his office in Umuahia, said during the period under review, the Command rescued 15 kidnap suspects, recovered 40 vehicles, 15 motorcycles and tricycles, 158 ammunition and 32 arms.
He assured that the Command “would continue to build on intelligence policing,” which had helped it to achieve the feat it has recorded so far.
Oyebade stressed the need for the public to continue to give the Police vital information that would lead to bursting and arrest of criminal gangs.
Meanwhile, Oyebade said the Command has arrested one Charles Ugwu, a driver with Peace Mass Transport Company, for allegedly killing his colleague.
According to the Police Commissioner, Ugwu and his deceased colleague, Anaele Chisom, had a heated argument which resulted into a fisticuff. In the process, Ugwu was said to have hit Chisom with an iron on the head.
He said Chisom was rushed to the hospital where he died the following morning.
