The Senate arm of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NAN) has passed a vote of confidence on the Nigerian Army amidst indicting report of human rights abuse by the Amnesty International.

In a communique signed by its Senate President and Senate Clerk, Salam Oyejide and Salaudeen Olanrewaju, NANS noted that the report by Amnesty International was a deliberate choice attempt to tarnish the image and reputation of the Army which has sacrificed so much to rid the country of insurgence and keep it one.

It said it concluded arrangements to embark on a nationwide solidarity march in support and appreciation of the Nigerian Army by next month, April, 2017.

“The NANS Senate hereby passes vote of confidence on the Nigerian Army for their commendable efforts toward war against insurgence. We condemn the report by Amnesty International on the Army as deliberate attempt to tarnish the image and reputation of our dear gallant Armed Forces. NANS has therefore resolved to embark on a nationwide solidarity march in support and appreciation of the Army by April, 2017,” it added.

The NANS has also called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to direct all commercial banks in the country to upgrade their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in order to dispense N40, 000 transaction, saying this would reduce the burden of multiple charges and extortion of customers, including students.

It warned against the plan by the CBN to introduce charges on deposits and withdrawals, adding that Nigerian students would put up capital resistance if the apex bank failed to adhere to its warning.

“The NANS Senate calls on the CBN to direct all commercial banks in the country to upgrade their ATMs in order to dispense N40,000 transaction. This is to reduce the burden of multiple charges/ extortion of customers, which students are not excluded,” it said.

This is as the NANS has applauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over success recorded so far in anti-graft war of President Muhammad Buhari’s administration.

It called on the National Assembly to expedite action on the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as substantive chairman of EFCC.
