The Zamfara State Government on Thursday said no corps member serving in the state was recently brutalised or killed.
A statement issued by the Office of the Governor, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar described the report as baseless and unfounded.
Earlier on Thursday, the management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, said it had redeployed a corps member serving in Zamfara to Anambra after he was assaulted by a police officer.
The Corp member identified as Michael Uwakwe was reportedly was brutalised and manhandled by the police for punishing a student who happened to be a rich man’s ward by simply asking him to go on his knees.
Victoria Okakwu, NYSC Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate told Journalists in Abuja that the corps member was redeployed to ensure his safety and security while carrying out his national assignment.
Even though investigations are still being carried over the incident, her statement conflicts with the account being given by the Zamfara state Government. (TV 360 Nigeria)
