Nigeria’s electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and improvement of the electoral process.

Speaking on Tuesday, the national commissioner in charge of the South South region, Mustapha Lecky said the commission respects Nigeria’s democracy and will do its best to uphold it.

Lecky was speaking while presenting a certificate of return to Bassey Etim the court recognised winner of the Akwa Ibom north east senatorial district elections at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He says the commission will continue to observe the principles of democracy without fear or prejudice.

On his part, Etim said the presentation has confirmed his belief in the commitment of the independent national electoral commission to the improvement of the electoral process and end to impunity.
