Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, has marshaled out developmental programmes that would impact on human development of Rivers South East Senatorial District.
Disclosing this when he paid a thank you visit to Oyigbo Local Government Area, as part of efforts to commend Rivers South East Senatorial District for returning him as a Senator of the 8th National Assembly, Abe said he has outlined various developmental programmes such as women empowerment, scholarship schemes and an initiative to empower creative minds in the district as well as the political class who supported him.
“I have outlined a very simple but thorough programmes that will enable us to deliver on our commitment to all of you”, he said.
Senator Abe who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said he decided to begin with women empowerment because women are cardinal to the development of any area, pointing out that if women are empowered that the quality of life at homes will automatically improve.
He said the women empowerment programme had been articulated strategically to produce results and that plans are on the way to provide capital for the women to engage in business of their choice, which had been certified to have prolific returns.
“Because of the situation that we are in now and the fact that things are so difficult for everyone, we want to do something that will be of quick impact to the family. So, we will call the women even if it is one, one, two, two, three, three per ward, we will bring them and give them small empowerment, interest free. Anything they can do that will add value to their family, they will take it and go and do that one”, he stated
Speaking further, Senator Abe said he would also continue with the scholarship programmes for youths.
This, he said can transform the youths to be better, more responsible and hopeful leaders of tomorrow.
He cautioned that the scholarship should not be politicized, as it is meant for those who are already in school.
“It is for those who are reading, studying and struggling in schools to try to make it. We will try not to put politics into it. We will identify those children that are serious and award the scholarships to them”, he said.
Furthermore, Senator Abe said he intends to have a programme where young persons with creative ideas would be supported to realize their lofty business visions and that such youths will be identified and supported, pointing out that such programmes will have critical impact on the economy of the district.
He, however, assured the political class that they would not be left out of the schemes as he had already articulated a programme aimed at empowering them for their support.
“Why we are putting that one at the end is that for it to be meaningful, we have to struggle to plan it properly and integrate it into a lot of the things that is going on around us within the system. You cannot just call politicians without planning effectively on how you will accommodate them within the scheme of things. So, as we are doing all these ones, we are also looking at the empowerment for the political class in the ways that are open to us to do that. But a lot of these things take time to work out. So, we are pushing that one further to give us time to be able to work on it in such a manner that the benefit will be meaningful to the people of the senatorial district”.
Senator Abe noted that the empowerment programmes would commence immediately after the visit to the local government areas.
“First is that we will do this thank you visit to all 7 LGAs in the senatorial district, in the way we did it last time, just to see stakeholders and explain to them what is going on, be able to answer their questions and concerns if any, interact with them and explain to them exactly how we intend to carry out the mandate they have given to us”.
Senator Abe had earlier thanked the people of Oyigbo local government area for voting en-masse for him and assured that they would not be left behind in his developmental schemes.
The former Secretary to Rivers State Government enjoined APC supporters in the local government not to jump ship and remain in the party, as many goodies will come their way, urging them to resist the efforts of the ruling party in the state to woo them with temporary attractions that are not enduring.
“APC is the party leading Nigeria into the future. So, anybody who is coming to say anything to try to confuse or deceive you in the LGA, you should know that that is nonsense. The other day, when the Vice President was here, you heard me when I publicly thanked the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. I meant what I was saying because in this country today, people are leaving every other sinking ship in droves and they are flying into APC from the window, door, roof, everywhere they can get in. So, don't let anybody fool or deceive you. I am in Abuja, I know that there is no other party in this country today that can take Nigerians to where Nigeria is heading to, apart from All Progressives Congress (APC) and that is where you are. You cannot leave where something is happening and start turning to where nothing is happening. Steadfast politician knows that there are certain parameters you look at when you want to project what is going to happen next. And in this country, when we take all these parameters into consideration, it is clear that the future of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is in the hands of APC and we are on course.”
