Independent Hajj Reporters, a civil society organisation that reports hajj activities in Nigeria and in Saudi Arabia, has launched HajjReporters.com, an online news platform to disseminate, update, educate, inform and enlighten pilgrims about hajj and Umrah activities.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Kaduna by its national coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammed.
He said as a registered Non-Profit Organisation, Independent Hajj Reporters has been reporting Hajj activities in the last six years, with the sole aim of monitoring how stakeholders are discharging their responsibilities to pilgrims.
Muhammed explained that membership of the organisation cuts across the entire spectrum of the media, including the print and electronic media, as well as the social media.
He said: “These reports, analysis and evaluations have been published in several national and International newspapers, aired on various radio and television stations in the last six years.
“However, in its efforts to expand its scope, Independent Hajj Reporters has launched online hajj news platform (www.hajjreporters.com).”
In the same vein, the group said it has published Hajj Reporters Magazine (Hajj 2016 edition) to add to its channels of information sharing on hajj.
“With the gradual transfiguration of Hajj services into online, it is necessary to explore the dynamism of digital journalism that provides interactive channel of information sharing to assist Hajj operations and the operators in the country,” Muhammed said.
The group, however, seeks the support of NAHCON, State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards and Agencies, Tour Operators and hajj service provider towards efficient and effective information sharing to aid pilgrims in their efforts to perform their spiritual obligations. Such across the board cooperation will also assist hajj administrators in policy formulations and implementation.
