Controversial former FCT Minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has reportedly been restricted from leaving his hotel room in Awka, the Anambra State capital, in South-East Nigeria.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain is in the state in connection with today’s governorship election in which his party’s candidate, Senator Chris Ngige, is one of the leading contenders.
“He has been prevented from leaving his hotel room by security men said to be acting on orders from above,” according to the Africa Independent Television (AIT).
El-Rufai is a rabid critic of the Nigerian Government and the ruling party at the centre, the PDP.
It is not yet clear why he is being restricted to his hotel room.
