Abia lawmaker pays WASSCE fees of 30 indigent students

A lawmaker in the Abia State House of Assembly has paid the 2017 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) registration fees of 30 indigent students.

Hon. (Chief) Ifeanyi Uchendu who represents Ohafia South State Constituency, while handing the WASSCE fees to the beneficiaries at Amaekpu Ohafia, also disclosed that he has equally paid Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination (JAMB) registration fees for 20 persons who benefitted from similar gestures last year.

He said the gesture to the WASSCE students was aimed at assisting the students to achieve their respective academic dreams. The lawmaker who is and the Minority Whip of the state House of Assembly expressed happiness that the 20 students who received similar offers last year were successful in their examinations, which prompted him to also given them money to register for JAMB.

Describing education as the greatest legacy a leader could bequeath to a society, Uchendu pledged that he would sustain the gesture throughout his tenure in the House.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Iro David Ojike of Otodo High School, Asaga Ohafia, assured the lawmaker and their parents of their desire to excel in the examination and beyond.
