The traditional ruler of Igbariam, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Highness, Igwe Kelly Nzekwe, has commended Gov. Peter Obi for his developmental strides and for renaming the Anambra State University as Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

Speaking during a chat with journalists yesterday in his palace in Igbariam, the royal father noted that the N5 billion the governor gave the university would aid the school in enhancing infrastructure and in improving security.

He stressed that the institution under the state management is very affordable compared with other state institutions in the country, adding that Igbos are known for their value of education, hence students should put their education in the forefront.

Igwe Nzekwe appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its five-month strike.

Speaking on the forthcoming governorship election in the state billed for November 16, the monarch called on people running for political offices not to turn the state into a war zone as the out-going governor did not turn the state into a war zone in the course of his eight years reign.

“You know that most of these politicians have their children in foreign countries, so nobody should allow himself to be used as thug while their own children are overseas getting good education and life. I appeal to people not to lend themselves for thuggery. Election is not a do-or-die business,” the royal father stated.
