A new operational format that targets assisting motorists with broken-down vehicles has been advocated by the Acting Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elehushi, who on Tuesday charged Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) operatives to give the Agency a new lease of life.

Speaking at a meeting with LASTMA operatives at Alausa, Ikeja, Elegushi urged them to be proactive in the discharge of their duties. He said that broken-down vehicles on Lagos roads should no longer be towed to LASTMA stations but rather their owners should be assisted in conveying them to a mechanic workshop and the charges borne by the vehicles owners.

He explained that this gesture will not only be of help to the vehicle owner but will ensure free flow of traffic on roads, stressing that it is necessary for the operatives to improve their way of doing things as well as strategies for better service delivery.

Elegushi urged them to be well informed about the traffic laws of the state and also ensure proper supervision of BRT lanes, adding that the use of the lanes by other road users, especially the commercial transport drivers should not be tolerated.
