Policemen in Lagos have left two dead and several others injured after firing at a group of protesting workers.
A report this morning in The PUNCH said casual staff of CHI Nigeria Limited were protesting against alleged discrimination by the Management of the company when policemen opened fire on them. The incident was said to have taken place on Saturday morning at the company’s headquarters located in the Ajao Estate, Oshodi, area of Lagos.
Daniel Osikoya, 19, who recently joined the company, reportedly bled to death hours after he was shot while another victim died on Tuesday afternoon.
The PUNCH quoted Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmus, as justifying the action of the policemen, claiming that they were first attacked by the workers, who allegedly threw caustic soda on them, injuring an unnamed Inspector.
An Indian-owned company, CHI is a leading producer of carbonated drinks in Nigeria.
