Archbishop Christian Efobi.
The Archbishop, Province of the Niger, and Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Christian Efobi, has called on Christians to use this season of Christmas to edify God and help the needy describing it as a season of goodwill.
He made the call in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, during the dedication of HoneyWell Hotel built by the leader of People’s Progressive Alliance (PPA) in the state, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo.
Bishop Efobi while commending Ezeemo for a job well done charged the workers in the new hotel to be of good character and promote the image of the hotel in good light so as to give their employer reasons not to regret his investment.
He described Christmas celebration as a legendary period because according to him, Jesus Christ came in a kingly way even though there was no kingship in his life.
The bishop urged Christians all over the world to emulate the ideals of Jesus Christ and to imbibe the attitude of appreciating their relationships with people around them without being status conscious.
He said: “Christmas is a not a time for kidnapping, armed robbery, violence but a moment of show of love, human development and exchange of goodwill as demonstrated by Ezeemo through the sighting of Honeywell hotel which will not only open up the community and environs but will create jobs for the able bodied men within and outside the town
“It is also a time for the wealthy citizens to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged.”
“Ezeemo has shown that he is truly a believer in Christ through his lots of show of deep passion for the growth of the church by single-handedly building a church and handing it over to the diocese for the propagation of the gospel.
“Ezeemo has used his wealth to put smiles on faces of the people around him and outside his environment which was the main feature of Christ.
“He has exhibited genuine selfless sacrifice by investing massively in infrastructural development without counting the cost of its investment in terms of recouping.”
While calling on wealthy people in the state to emulate Ezeemo’s ideology of developing rural communities, the bishop reminded the people that humility was a major feature of Christ hence it is a virtue Christians should imbibe.
On his part, the Bishop emeritus, Diocese of Awka and Dean emeritus Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Awka, Most Rev. Maxwell Anikwenwa, said that the location of Honeywell hotel in a rural area shows the willingness of the owner to develop his environment without counting gains.
He said: “In my 30 years as a Bishop in Awka, I have never seen a huge hotel of this class built by a single individual in the state. It is really amazing and shows a proof of one with solid transformation ideas.
He observed that if Ezeemo could embark on such huge project as an individual, he would do amazing things in the state as a leader stressing that “his type is who we want to man helm of affairs in this state.”
Anikwenwa who blessed the edifice prayed for all the business to be transacted in the building to bring glory to God and also for the investment to flourish.
Rt. Rev. Ephriam Ikeakor, Bishop, Diocese of Amichi, an indigene of Umuchu, said that he was excited that such edifice was built by his community man with his personal God given money with a view to bringing home his wealth just to open up the town and create jobs for the people of the community and environs.
In his speech, Ezeemo said that he was grateful to God for using him to touch lives in a positive manner and assured that he was ready to serve humanity to the best of his ability.
While reeling out the challenges he faced while erecting the edifice to include lack of road for getting materials to the site, electricity failure and getting the right workers due its location, the Publisher cum politician noted that educated people prefer to work in city than in the rural areas.
“I grew up here and when I travelled out and saw that one can make his environment anything he wants or desire, I decided to share my gains from the Western world with my people ,I hope it will be a blessing in disguise for the upcoming youth,” he stated.
The five-star standard hotel is expected to create jobs for over 70 persons.
