The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki should be allowed some space to work and focus on his assignment for the benefit of the people of the state, especially now that he must lay a good foundation upon which his administration would build on.

A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo North Senatorial zone and Initiator/Founder of a political pressure group, Edo on the Rise Again (EdoRA), Comrade Salihu Othman Isah, made this appeal in a press statement made available to journalists, in view of the recent insinuations by some party members that he has abandoned them after helping him win the governorship election.

Isah, a media and marketing expert who is currently the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, believes it is just too early to begin to complain of abandonment at this time when the Governor is barely weeks old in office.

He opined that “governance is not tea party, and so Governor Obaseki needs them now for their support more than ever to kick-start and put his administration in proper footing,” advising that they should also imbibe the spirit of exploiting the necessary party machinery to ventilate their grievances if any.

The actor and movie producer also described as simply apprehensive their position that the Governor might not carry them along in the scheme of things, saying instead, as an astute administrator; he believes Obaseki will carry everyone along, but that patience must be the key word.

According to the erstwhile National Vice President, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and chairman, North West zone, Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), since the Governor assumed office about two months ago, he has been able to carry on from where his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole stopped, thereby exhibiting his desire to promote continuity in governance.

“In this aspect, he has been able to show that he is consistent with modern day governance of continuing where the previous administration terminated both in programmes, policies and vital projects. As a key figure in the immediate past government, I don’t expect that he will begin to discard the achievements he has contributed immensely to achieve,” Isah said.

“Obaseki was one of the key players in Oshiomhole’s government and was in fact, head of its think-tank, so, he has a hand in the actions and inactions of that administration, and since that government has been rated high, all that is required of him is to build on its achievements so that the state can move forward like we have seen over the years with Lagos State,” he added.

Isah said that his group, Edo on the Rise Again (EdoRA), having campaign vigorously for Obaseki and the APC ticket to secure the governorship, it will work for the sustenance of the leadership and ultimately, the success of the administration.

“Let me use this opportunity to appeal to APC supporters and every right-thinking Edolites never to allow anyone hoodwink them into buying into their ‘pull-him-down’ syndrome because it is what they are used to, denigrating any sitting government. Instead, we should be conscientious to add our quota, no matter how little; to the progress of the state,” the chairman, Board of Trustees, EdoRA maintained.
