A group of dare-devil armed robbers have laid siege to a section of the Benin – Lagos Expressway, robbing and terrorising those who fell into their trap.
The affected stretch of the road is between Benin, the Edo State capital in mid-west Nigeria, and Ore, the popular junction town in Ondo in the south-west.
“Heavy robbery going on along Benin – Ore road,” screamed a senior journalist close to the scene of the robbery in a text message to News Express. “It is going on now near Ogbemudia Farm. Vehicles coming from Benin and the East have parked. No vehicle is coming from Lagos. They attacked some buses,” the journalist who is on his way back to Lagos from Benin added.
He disclosed that the armed robbers “blocked the road with a trailer while some hid in the bush to allow many vehicles to park, looking for a way to manouevre and they have rounded them up from behind, shooting; so it’s difficult for people to escape.”
News Express learnt that the robbers operated unchallenged for some 30 minutes before the police arrived and dispersed them just as this story was being concluded.
