Clash between police and hoodlums leaves one dead

A clash between the police and some suspected hoodlums has left one dead at Ogbere Police Station in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The Oyo State police command spokesman DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu who took Channels Television to the scene of the clash explained that some hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers attacked police men on stop and search duties at Ogbere but was repelled by the police.

Ajisebutu added that the hoodlums afterwards re grouped in a larger number and besieged Ogbere police station with guns and other dangerous weapon but were overpowered leaving one fatally wounded in the process but died on the way to the hospital.

One of the 2 suspects arrested told journalists that they are members of a local vigilante group on their way to a zonal meeting when they were stopped by the police.

5 cut to size pistols, 103 cartridges and dangerous charms were found on them.

Tension was evident at the Ogbere Police Station and environs as armored vehicles and armed police men from the station and S.A.R.S were seen cordoning off the area.

Vehicular movement at the police station had to be stopped as motorists were seen turning back and taking alternate routes to avoid passing in front of the Ogbere police station.

One of the suspects caught during the clash confirmed that 10 of them returned to the police station on the order of one of their members who supposedly wanted to settle the rift before it turned bloody.

He however denied knowing anything about the weapons found on them. (Channels TV)
