Senate passes Peace Corps Bill for Final Reading

The Senate on Thursday concluded its consideration of the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) Bill‎, 2016 (SB. 173 & SB.183) ‎and passed it for Third Reading.

This followed the report the report of the Bill presented on the floor of the Senate by the Chairman of the Interior Committee, Senator Bayero Nafada.

Giving his comment on the Bill, Senate President Bukola Saraki said that efficiency in the use of scarce resources by the Corps would help generate youth employment.

According to Saraki, “The Peace Corps has been functioning already as we are only providing it with a stronger frame work. We look forward to efficient functionability in view of the scarce resources that we have and help in youth unemployment.”

Senator Sam Anyanwu, who represents Imo East, spoke on the need for the Corps to help with existing security agencies in the country.
