Women of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State, have called on the Federal Government to withdraw military men who, according to them, have been invading their community for about a week now.

Protesting In Oporoza the traditional headquarters of the Gbaramatu kingdom, the women claimed that the incessant harassment of their kinsmen by the soldiers, have left many of them traumatised and finding it difficult to copeGbaramatu kingdom has been on the spotlight since the resurface of agitation by the Niger Delta militants, known as the Niger Delta Avengers, who have claimed responsibility of blowing up the country’s oil and gas facilities in the region.

While Channels Television visited the community, it was observed that fishing activities had died down in Gbaramatu, a place that was once a beehive of activities, especially fishing, which is a major source of their livelihood.

The protesting women from neighbouring communities accused the Army of ransacking their homes and carting away their valuables.

The presence of the military in their communities was expected to prevent further destruction of National Assets in the region, however, it is beginning to create tension as according to residents, “people now move in fear.”

Some of them also said that the invasion of the soldiers sends panic round the communities, causing residents to desert their homes and seek cover in the bushes.
The spokesman of the Joint Task Force, was however unavailable for confirmation and questioning about the purpose of the invasion. (Channels TV)
