U.S. reassures on partnership with Nigeria, sends Independence greetings

The United States of America has reassured on its partnership with Nigeria, saying it can only get stronger in the years ahead for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries.

A statement by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry congratulating Nigeria on the attainment of 53 years of nationhood highlighted both countries’ shared values and stressed the need for continued cooperation between them. The statement made available to News Express by e-mail said:

“On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Nigeria as you celebrate your Independence Day on October 1.

“A warm friendship connects the Nigerian and American people, reflecting our shared values of democracy, economic growth, security, and respect for human rights and the rule of law. Our partnership is strong because of our people. As the proverb tells us, “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

“In the coming years, the United States looks forward to going further with Nigeria as we expand education, jobs and opportunity for our people.

“On the 53rd anniversary of your independence, I wish all Nigerians a safe and prosperous future.”
