The remains of a tricycle rider popularly known as keke, Mr. Sule Muhammed, was over the weekend discovered at an uncompleted building in the Okpuno area of Anambra State.
Information has it that the deceased met his end after he was dragged to the location by his assailants, who axed him on the head and other parts of his body.
Muhammed, whose tricycle was also discovered at the place where he took his last breath, hailed from Kogi State and was declared missing by his wife and elder brother when he failed to return home on Thursday night.
The body of the deceased was later discovered during a police search.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Nkeiru Nwode, said that an investigation into the incident has been opened.
She said that no suspect has been pointed at neither is the reason for the action known.
“For now, we cannot say who his killers are or the reason for his being killed. Our men have moved the body to the morgue for autopsy and I can assure you that it won’t be long before we get his killers.”
Nwode also said that an axe which is suspected to be the weapons used in killing him was found at the area were the body was found but there are feelers that the death may have been linked to cult activities.
President of the Association of Non Indegens living in Anambra State (ANIAS), Comrade Ferguson Okpara, in a chat with Journalists after the body was evacuated said that the deceased’s brother reported the disappearance of his sibling to the association after failing to reach him on phone several times which led to their contacting the police.
While condemning the killing of Muhammed, he urged members of the association to be circumspect in carrying out their daily tasks and to desist from acts capable of tarnishing their name and reputation knowing that they are not indigenes.
