Despite the economic recession which has bedevilled the nation, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, sees nothing wrong in flaunting her expensive wardrobe at a time when many Nigerians can no longer afford a meal in a day.

The government of a supposedly austere President Buhari had earlier promised to cut the cost of governance and reduce spending to the extent of not creating the Office of The First Lady, but Nigerians are yet to see a difference between Aisha’s style and that of her predecessors.
On Tuesday, Aisha caused a stir when she uploaded on Instagram a colourful photograph in which she is putting on a Salvatore Ferragamo Cape dress. Salvatore Ferragamo, is a trademark of Farfetch UK Limited, and is registered in numerous jurisdictions around the world.
The dress, according to research conducted by News Express, costs $2,600 – about N1.2 million in Nigerian currency.
Aisha opted for the expensive foreign-made dress despite the on-going Change Begins With Me campaign launched by the Buhari administration which seeks, among other objectives, to promote Made-in-Nigeria good and services.
The First Lady wrote alongside the photo: “I am heading to Brussels to attend a forum where I will be giving the opening remark on ‘Women’s Role in Global Security”.
Expectedly, it is her recession-immune dress that has become a topic for discussion and not the event for which she is jetting out of the country.
