The Nigerian Army says it will launch another offensive approach to rescue all abducted persons irrespective of the locations in the country.

Codenamed ‘Operation Rescue Final,’ the operation is aimed at ensuring that kidnapped people are rescued in the shortest possible time.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai confirmed the creation of the operation on Wednesday when the House of Representatives Committee on Army, led by its Chairman, Rimande Shawulu, paid him a visit in Abuja.

Buratai maintained that the Army remains poised to ensure the liberty of all abducted persons within the country; hence the new approach, “Once we start (the operation), we will not relent until everybody abducted is rescued.”

The Army Chief stated that with the Army’s Rule of Engagement in the defence of the country’s territorial integrity, the Force would discharge its constitutional roles without infringing on the rights of the citizenry.

On the issue of human rights, he promised that the army would continue to respect and not infringe on the rights of the people, while carrying out its duty.

He said the infrastructural deterioration was as a result of previous negligence of the barracks and institutions.

He commended the House Committee on Army for their impact at the National Assembly, which has tremendously increased the budget and helps address the issue of infrastructural decay in the barracks.

Lt. Gen. Buratai further appealed to the House to fast track the impending bills of the Nigerian Army to facilitate their operations.

The Chairman, House Committee on Army, Rimande Shawulu lauded the Nigerian Army for the motivation to fight even in the face of obvious poor infrastructural facilities in the barracks and formations visited.

He urged the Army to discharge their responsibilities without violation of human rights, while also hoping that appropriate legislations would be updated to meet the current challenges as well as provide the enabling environment for security forces to operate.

The Chairman revealed that the country is partnering other Parliaments in the region on how to match the tactics and strategies of terrorist groups toe-to-toe. (TV360 Nigeria)
