Residents of Trans-Egbu Housing estate Owerri have cautioned the management of the Imo Housing Corporation over what they described as over-zealousness, wickedness and clandestine plot to take over the open space located within their estate, and perhaps share the parcel of land among top government officials.

The management of the Corporation was said to have, a few days ago, moved down heavy duty equipment such as caterpillars, bulldozers, and trucks to the empty field located at the popular Housing Estate in the neighbourhood of the state capital and started pulling down ornamental trees. They were also said to have embarked on destruction of the field without directive from the state government.
Irked by the development, youths in the estate were said to have come out in their numbers and chased away the officials of the Housing Corporation. Consequently, the youths of the estate, the elders including women are said to have concluded plans to visit Governor Rochas Okorocha to table their grievances. They reasoned that Okorocha could not have authorised the destruction of the field and its ornamental trees, planted over 30 years ago by then government of Sam Mbakwe.
