Facts have emerged on why Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Thursday sacked his Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Public Utilities, Dr. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, “with immediate effect”.
A reliable source close to the Government House told News Express: “The sack is not unconnected with the former commissioner’s alleged involvement in the telecom business as well as his rush to reply a letter written to Governor Okorocha by his predecessor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, where it was alleged that Dr. Ajumbe used uncomplimentary statement against the writer instead of addressing issues raised by the former number one citizen of Imo State.”
Ajumbe is said to have taken his sudden sack in goOd faith, swiftly issuing a polite statement in which he thanked Okorocha for the opportunity given him to serve.
A political analyst in the state capital, Owerri, said: “Dr. Ajumbe chose to adopt the same political decency applied by the Emeritus Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), Sir Jude Ejiogu who everyone says, taught politicians how to approach the same issue with maturity and forge ahead.
“It could be recalled that prior to the inception of the second term of the Rescue Mission Administration, disengaged political appointees had tackled the Governor once they were sacked. Sir Ejiogu, however, brought sanity and political maturity into the system by demonstrating the need to appreciate the Governor once an individual is relieved of his position via his Thank-You letter shortly after he was removed as SGI.”
