Immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, not involved in the operations of Next International Ltd., his Media Aide, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, said on Monday. He said the clarification became necessary in view o attempts in some quarters to link Obi with the operations of the company.
Obienyem said in a statement: “I have been inundated with avalanche of calls seeking clarification on the sealing of Next International Ltd disused warehouse at Onitsha, particularly as the name of Mr. Peter Obi was attached to the company, as well as other companies that their names were mentioned.
“First and foremost, may I state clearly and for the avoidance of doubt that Mr. Peter Obi is not on the Board of Next International Ltd nor part of its management.
“As a matter of fact, Mr. Obi enjoys great respect in the corporate world, where, before he became Governor of Anambra State, he was on the Boards, both as Chairman and Director, of many quoted companies, including Fidelity Bank Plc, Guardian Express Bank Plc, Next International Ltd, Future Views Securities Ltd, Charms Plc, among others. He was never found wanting at any time.
“However, he resigned from the boards of these companies over 12 years ago and should not, at this point, be linked to their actions and inactions.
“He believes that if any of those companies he enjoys relationship with, including Next International Ltd, have issues such as those that have to do with taxes or any other issuesthat such companies usually experience in the course of doing business, that they will sort them out as good corporate entities.”
