Nigerian online journalism has a new member. Known as Intervention, it defines itself as being about, after and beyond intervention. A statement by Adamu Umar, the Acting editor described the paper’s focus as “journalism in the service of collective survival” which it is to achieve through balancing of power.
According to the statement, there would be consistent mapping of what it called the different voices and the debates, the alternatives as well as the actors in the society so as to ensure win-win outcomes instead of winners and losers in the society.
The paper says it would not be able to afford objectivity on certain issues such as right to life; end to the culture of cruelty; access to food, water and basic health; the safety of children; comprehensive elimination of nuclear weaponry and freedom of speech. Its choice of issues in reporting and style points to a high quality paper.
