The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Owomiha Francis

Udoma, has declared that over-speeding of vehicles on Nigerian roads kills more than Malaria and Diabetes.

He added that, majority of car owners don’t have license and most of the car owners are using fairly used and expired tires. The Sector commander made the assertion on Tuesday, during a Press Conference ahead of Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) sensitisation road walk in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council coming up on Saturday.

The Sector Commandant solicited for the support of the media in the state towards sensitising car owners on the dangers of over speeding and violation of traffic regulations and environmental cleanliness.

“KASTELEA is a welcome development and will complement us in our responsibility of ensuring safety and obeying traffic regulation in the state,” he added.

Ahmed Zubairu Yerima, a retired colonel and General Manager of KASTELEA warned that, if laws are not obeyed, there will be epidemic and this at the end would cost the state government much to curtail.

“But we want to ensure free flow of traffic and environmental laws in the state. We are out to ensure orderliness but not to force people. The people should not see us as their enemies. We are only partners in progress,” Ahmed noted.

He called on the citizens of the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse especially on gutters in this raining season and to always keep their environment clean. The General Manager also warned people to desist from building on river banks to avoid flooding. While describing streets hawking as a menace, the General Manager reiterated that “we are not against your business but it must be done in a safe place not on the road.”

He said partnering with journalists would go a long way in sensitising members of the general public in the state to know their activities.”
