Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese of the Catholic Church, Matthew Kukah, has urged Muslims in northern Nigeria to respect the existence of the Christian community.
He made the request in an interview with Channels Television after a church mass in Malamfashi area of Katsina State in North-West Nigeria.
Bishop Kukah, who was reacting to the increasing cases of attacks on Christians in the North for alleged blasphemy or even failure to participate in the ongoing Muslim Ramadan fast, said that Muslims must realise the importance of the Christian minority group of northern indigenes, if the northern part of Nigeria would move forward.
The Bishop also tasked Muslims observing the Ramadan fast to look beyond personal prayer points and check the ways they have failed to do what was right towards fellow people.
He said his sincere prayer was that every Muslim in Nigeria would really understand the values of their religion.
