The Nigerian Army is training Commanding Officers from areas of responsibility on the usage of newly acquired military equipment.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, said participants had been drawn from the One, Two, Three, Seven and Eight Divisions of the Nigerian Army to participate in the five-day workshop holding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in northeast Nigeria.

He explained that the parley was organised to equip the personnel on better approaches to the scourge of kidnapping, terrorism and armed banditry in their areas of responsibility.

Representing General Buratai, the Army Head of Training and Administration, Major General Hassan Umaru, red a riot act to participants from a speech prepared by the Army Chief.

The General Officer Commanding Three Division of the Nigeria Army, Major General Elvis Njoku, expressed hope that participants would be exposed to the acquired new equipment, field crafts and important military tactics now going extinct.

The Commanding Officer of 254 Task Force Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Edet Effiong, also commended the Army authorities for the training.

Other participants also welcomed the idea and expressed eagerness to cross-fertilise ideas with a view to providing practical suggestions that would be implemented to enhance combat proficiency in the discharge of their duties.

The annual workshop for the commanding officers offers a platform for participants to share peculiar and practical experiences to foster increased operational efficiency.

Participants at this year’s workshop themed “enhancing the capacity of commanding officers for counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations” are expected to step down the knowledge acquired on troops upon completion. (Channels TV)
