A magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook Japan’s Tokyo area Monday night, a report from the area said.

The report, by Anadolu Agency, quoted the U.S. Geological Survey as saying that the temblor occurred 41.0 kilometres (25.5 miles) northeast of the capital at a depth of 37.5 kilometres.

It said that the Japan Meteorological Agency registered the quake at a magnitude of 5.6, news broadcaster NHK reported, and no tsunami alert was issued.

Monday marked one month since the second of twin powerful earthquakes hit the country’s southwest, leaving a total of 49 people dead, Anadolu reported.
