Hundreds of Nigerian youths under the aegis of Occupy National Assembly today besieged the National Assembly and forcefully closed all the entrances that lead to its premises, claiming that they would shut down National Assembly permanently until demands are fully met.

The protesters, including students from different institutions, articulated their demands, ranging from removal of Senate President Bukola Saraki to revisiting the grey areas identified in the 2016 budget by President Muhammadu Buhari, and lack of credible representation by federal lawmakers. There was also a demand for the 36 senators, who had so far collected their own exotic jeeps, to return them immediately or face the wrath of Nigerians.

The protesters marched from the Central Area city of Abuja, Unity Fountain, beside Transcorp Hilton Hotel, to the National Assembly, and practically forced their way to the main gate, defying the security network mounted by police officers.
