All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Isah Misau, who represents Bauchi Central district, was attacked by irate youths on Saturday in the Ningi area of his constituency, according to two eyewitnesses. The two sources said Senator Misau was in Ningi to attend a social function when he came under attack. It was at the social function that the Senator was apparently pelted with stones and bottles.

Senator Misau however denied he was attacked for supporting Senate President Bukola Saraki One of the eye witnesses, named as Isa Sa’ad, said Senator Misau was attacked because of his support for the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who is under pressure to resign because of his ongoing corruption trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Mr Sa’ad also said Ningi youth attacked Misau due to his opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari, shouting that “anybody supporting Saraki is anti-Buhari.”

“You are aware Isah Hammah Misau is supporting Saraki who is corrupt and against the change agenda of President Buhari,” Mr Sa’ad said. “You see, Misau was sent to the Senate because we wanted him to support Buhari.

But after getting to the Senate, he has teamed up with other people to support Saraki. Anybody supporting Saraki is anti-Buhari. “That’s why people were throwing stones and bottles at him. He brought four cars but left with the smallest because others were damaged. “He left his cap and shoe while trying to escape.”

Bukola Saraki is the first Senate president to be arrested in Nigeria’s history The other eyewitness involved in the alleged skirmish declined to give their name but confirmed Mr Sa’ad’s story. When contacted, Senator Misau confirmed he was in Ningi on Saturday as part of a constituency tour. He added he was also in Ningi to condole with a constituent identified only as Captain Ningi who is apparently recently bereaved. He, however, said insisted he was not attacked while visiting the area.

According to some sources these are the slippers Senator Misau left behind after he was allegedly attack “You know when we go like that, we give people money,” the senator said. “So it may be that the violence started after I left when they were trying to share money. “But there is nothing like that [an attack]. I am not aware myself. I read the report online too.” (TVC/ Premium Times)
