There was no dramatic comeback for the Black Satellites of Ghana this evening as they fell 1-2 to the Les Bleuets of France at Bursa and thus failed to book their place in the final of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Turkey.

Africa’s last team standing went behind to a Florian Thauvin 43rd minute goal but leveled scores four minutes later through Ebenezer Assifuah. Thauvin however restored France’s lead in the 74th minute.

Ghana fought back strongly, raising hopes of a repeat of what happened on Sunday when they staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Chile 4-3 in a quarter-final thriller after trailing 2-3 in extra time. But that was not to be, despite France playing with a man down from the 80th minute when referee Nawaf Shukralla gave Samuel Umtiti the marching order for a second bookable offence.

France thus confirmed their superiority over Ghana, whom they beat 3-1 on the first day of the competition. Les Bleuets will face either Iraq or Uruguay in Saturday night’s final in Istanbul.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles crashed out in the preliminary rounds of the championship and Coach John Obu has since thrown in the towel.
