Secretary to the Government of Anambra State (SSG), Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze, has made his long-awaited declaration of interest to run for the governorship of the South-East Nigerian state.
Obaze, who sources say fits the picture of a successor preferred by incumbent Governor Peter Obi, said yesterday in a short statement in Awka, the state capital:
“In furtherance to my personal commitment to public service and having been encouraged by well-meaning Ndi Anambra and close associates, following due diligence and introspection, I have this week commenced formal exploratory talks on my possible candidacy for the governorship of Anambra state in 2014. I am consulting with the state leaders, APGA state executives and all key state stakeholders, particularly those in Anambra north senatorial zone. In the weeks ahead, I will provide further details.”
Though Governor Obi has yet to indicate his choice of successor, News Express observed that his body language has tilted towards Obaze.
“I can tell you that Obi is pleased with him because this is one man who can continue the governor’s good works,” a source at the Anambra State Government House told News Express.
To realise his ambition, Obaze would have to pick the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before battling candidates of other parties in the election expected to hold later this year. Obi, who is credited with having radically transformed the face of Anambra, completes his second four-year tenure next March.
