Gunmen have attacked Kwasakwasa village  in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the North-West Nigeria, killing several people including security personnel.

Sources say a Nigeria Army captain and six vigilante were among those killed by the armed bandits.
Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Col. Usman Kukasheka, confirming the incident said, “Yes, I can confirm to you there was an encounter between our soldiers and insurgents in Birnin Gwari in which a number of the assailants were killed. Unfortunately, we also sustained two casualties. Other details later.”

Some villages who spoke to newsmen said over 100 bandits carried out the attacks.

The attack, which came four days after a similar one on three villages in the area, was said to have occurred at about 6am yesterday.

The thick forest in the area which stretches to parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, and the southern part of the country is being used as cover by armed gangs for some times.

Last Saturday’s attack had left seven people dead, while 24 villagers were killed in a similar attack on a mosque at Dogon Dawa village in October last year.
