NiMET predicts dust haze in northern and central cities today, hazy condition in inland cities, clouds in coastal areas

“Dust haze condition is expected to prevail over the north and central cities, the inland cities would experience hazy condition while the coastal areas will experience partly cloudy condition due to movement of moisture laden winds from the Atlantic Ocean into the country.”

That is the summary of the weather forecast for today, Thursday, February 4, 2016, as made by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET). Below is the regional forecast for the day by NiMET:

NORTHERN STATES: Cities around the north such as Sokoto, Birnin-Kebi, and Yelwa will have dust haze which may keep their visibility within 2km. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 11-19oC.

CENTRAL STATES: Abuja, Minna, Bida, Makurdi, Ilorin and Kaduna will experience moderate dust haze. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 16 -23oC.

SOUTHERN STATES: Inland areas of the south are likely to be partly cloudy in the morning to cloudy conditions in the afternoon with prospect of slight showers in the south east coast. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 19-26oC.

NOTE: During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry, windy and dusty. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks.
