The Enugu-Onitsha Expressway around 8pm Monday night witnessed multiple accidents involving two trucks and a commercial bus at the Mopol 29 Base, close to Dora Akunyili Women Development Center.
According to an eye witness, the commuter bus, a Toyota Hiace with the registration number Anambra KPP 299 XA, was conveying passengers from Enugu to Awka when it collided with two trucks, one of the trucks with registration number Imo WER 306XL, loaded with drugs was moving out of Awka and the second truck was heading into Awka.
Unconfirmed report said two people lost their lives on the spot while several others sustained serious diverse injuries.
The victims have been moved to the Chukwu Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka.
Reacting to the incident, the Assistant Corps Commander in charge of Operations, who led the rescue mission, Mr. Charles Ezichi, attributed the mishap to impatience and reckless driving.
He called on motorists to always exercise patience on the roads and avoid over speeding which he added was the major cause of most road mishaps.
At the time of filing this report, men of the FRSC, the Police and other security operatives were still seen at the scene of the accident clearing the road for free vehicular movement.
